Epilogue

He’d been gone by the time she woke up in the morning, leaving a note to say the room was hers as long as she wanted. Even if she’d wanted to, time and her second flight had waited for no one.

Kyla cast a glance along the line of people waiting to have their books signed and plastered her game face back on. She shouldn’t have expected him to hang around for breakfast really. It was a one-night thing. Two people from different worlds coming together for hot sex before heading off to live their lives. He hadn’t even asked her name, she thought morosely, as she mechanically signed books and smiled. How much of an indication had that been that it was nothing more than a one-night stand…or her own little flight of fantasy.

Two hours passed. She smiled, asked names and signed books. A rigid routine as she worked through the line until it began to thin out. Then there were no more books to be signed. Kyla checked her watch. Thank god, five minutes to close. She’d be able to escape, go back to her hotel and sleep. She groaned and rolled her neck, rubbing at the sore muscles.

A book was pushed under her nose. Mentally, she sighed. Latecomers should be shot.

“Who to?” Forcing a smile, she pulled it toward her and opened it, pen poised.

“How about…‘to my biggest fan’, princess?”

The deep voice and familiar endearment brought her head up sharply. Alex stood in front of her, clean-shaven and with a suit on. A twinkle in his eyes, he leaned over the table to brush a kiss against her lips. Around them, a storm of camera flashes lit the room. She blinked in surprise. The cameras hadn’t been there a moment before, so he must have brought them with him.

“I don’t care what you put as long as we get to try the position on page ninety-seven.”

She gaped, speechless. He was here.

“How did you find me?” she asked as she opened the book. “You didn’t ask my name.”

He winked, ignoring the cameras around them. “Enough of a bribe and hotel reception will tell you anything. All I needed was your room number. Are you done here?”
